The following volunteer positions are open for the 2018–19 school year.

We are a friendly, welcoming group of parents and encourage anyone with interest to get involved.
No experience necessary.

Position Description Contact
Vice President* Assist President with presidential duties

The executive vice president shall:

  1. Serve as the primary aide to the president
  2. Perform the duties of the president in the absence or disability of that officer to act
  3. Perform such other duties as assigned by the PTO
  4. Serve as member of the executive board
  5. Post English/Spanish signs on the Monday before the PTO general meeting
  6. Attend monthly executive board and PTO general meetings

Future Directions: organize PTO presence at Locker Day, Welcome Back Picnic, and Open Enrollment events

Timing and Level of Commitment: 4-5 hours a month, depending on events. 30 minutes per week for meetings, plus any work shared with President. Most work can happen at home. PTO general meeting and board meetings happen monthly during school hours

Events Chair* The role of Event Chair is to collaborate with the school administration in planning and implementing school events and to support other chairs in their events as needed.

Monthly Time Commitment:

  • Attending PTO Board and General meetings
  • October – December  work with administration to plan and implement the Winter Party (Approximately 6-8 hours total over the three months which includes day of party/about 3-4 hours)
  • Spring – Plan for the 8th grade graduation party and last day of school events for 6th and 7th grades-meet with Principal and representatives as many times as needed (3-5 hours planning- and the last day of school  – current chair spent the entire day at school-that could be changed)
  • Support other Coordinators as needed (Honor Roll, Bike to School, etc.)

Marketing and Communications Chair* The role of Marketing and Communications Chair is to promote PTO and PTO events to the school community, and to support fundraising, events and other PTO needs through print and digital communications. The Marketing and Communications Chair is a member of the PTO Board.


  • Attend General and Executive Board meetings (2x/month)
  • Send out monthly PTO email newsletter through Mailchimp (2 hours/month)
  • Update PTO website with current information (1-2 hours/month)
  • Create flyers, posters and other print materials as needed (ongoing)
  • Produce give-aways for incoming 6th graders and CMS community, such as information cards/magnets, promo pens, water bottles, etc.
  • Support fall fundraising campaign with digital and print communications (4 hours in September/October)

Grocery Card Coordinator The role of Grocery Card Coordinator is to coordinate the card program with local groceries and market and distribute cards to our school community.

Monthly Time Commitment:

  • Attending General meetings
  • August–October implement planned marketing campaign for Grocery Cards (5 hours month)
  • Distribute cards as requested  (On-going)
  • Pick up new cards and provide reporting (On-going)

Future Directions: Additional marketing, such as submitting a blurb to Centennial Cyclones Connections, distributing grocery cards at Check-in day in August and 6th Grade transition night in May. Encourage grocery card holders to use their cards!
